Assistant Cook, Primary Phase

Permanent position, TTO, 39 weeks (Including 5 INSET days)

Start Date: 1 September 2025


The Dean Trust is seeking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Assistant Cook to join our dedicated team at Abraham Moss Community School, Crescent Road, Cumpsall, Manchester, M8 5UF. The position will be within our Primary Phase.

The core purpose of the role will be to work alongside the Catering Manager to provide a high-quality, efficient catering service that meets the nutritional, cultural, and dietary needs of pupils. The postholder will be responsible for daily operations, team leadership, menu development, compliance with nutritional standards and legislation, and budgetary control.

Key responsibilities:

The main duties and responsibilities of this role are:

  • Planning and Organising: Ability to clearly prioritise work, set targets for self to demanding timescales.
  • Problem Solving and Decision Making: Ability to interpret basic rules and guidelines in order to resolve queries.
  • Financial Management: Numeracy and accuracy skills to collate information and keep accurate and reliable records to help with the monitoring and reviewing of financial resources and monitoring procedures.
  • People Management: Ability to organise own and, working alongside the Catering Manager, others activities with an ability to carry out operational planning for a specific service area.
